Cosmetic Dentistry Q&A

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is the umbrella name for a variety of dental treatments and procedures designed to improve the appearance of your teeth and smile. Cosmetic dental treatments correct alignment issues, discoloration, crowding, chips, uneven shapes, and gaps. Cosmetic dentistry helps you get the bright, straight, healthy smile you’ve always wanted, improving your confidence and self-esteem. Cosmetic treatments can also correct some functional issues.

What dental procedures and treatments are considered cosmetic?

The cosmetic treatments needed vary from person to person. Dr. Kim offers comprehensive consultations to determine the best treatments to address your concerns about the appearance of your smile. Some of the most common cosmetic dentistry services include:

  • Teeth whitening to remove staining and discoloration, which can prematurely age your face.
  • Veneers, which can address deep, internal staining, correct gaps, hide chips or breaks, and create a straight, uniform smile.
  • Crowns, which cover stained or damaged teeth and correct any unevenness in the shape of your teeth.
  • Orthodontics, including braces and Invisalign® aligners, to straighten teeth, close gaps, and address overcrowding and alignment issues.

How will I know what treatments I need?

If you want to improve the appearance of your teeth and smile, but aren’t sure what you need, make an appointment with Dr. Kim at the Hoover Dental Center for a consultation. Dr. Kim can talk to you in detail about what you want to change about your teeth and provide his best advice on the treatment or treatments you need to achieve the smile of your dreams. He can also examine your teeth to determine if any corrective care is necessary to protect the health of your teeth before any purely cosmetic treatments.

Dr. Kim can answer any questions you have about the different treatments available. Some subjects you might want to address include:

  • Whether your teeth will look the way you want them to after treatment
  • What the suggested procedures involve
  • The number of appointments the treatment requires
  • What type of care your teeth need after the procedures are complete
